Apple is integrating AI into the core of iOS and macOS, focusing on on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute to maintain user privacy.
While competitors raced to release standalone chatbots, Apple took a more integrated approach with 'Apple Intelligence.' By weaving AI into the operating system level, Apple aims to provide utility through context-aware actions, such as summarizing notifications, prioritizing emails, and generating personalized images through Image Wand.
The standout feature of Apple's strategy is its commitment to privacy. Much of the processing occurs directly on the device's M-series or A-series chips. For tasks requiring more power, Apple introduced Private Cloud Compute (PCC). PCC uses dedicated Apple silicon servers that ensure data is never stored or accessible by Apple, providing a verifiable standard for cloud privacy.
Siri is also undergoing a major transformation, gaining better linguistic understanding and the ability to take actions across different apps. This 'app-aware' intelligence allows users to give complex commands like 'Send the photos from Saturday's hike to Mom,' which the system executes by identifying the relevant media and contact information automatically.
